Has there ever been a coffee system in more dire need of re-invention than the drip system? It's almost become a synonym for bitter, bad tasting coffee. Well, no more: There is a whole new thinking behind the BISTRO electric coffee dripper - the convenience of it being the only common ground. Let's start with the removable water tank: due to a powerful spiral heating element the water comes close to a boil and - with a glass pipe transporting it over to the coffee filter - doesn't lose much heat. The water gets distributed evenly over the ground coffee through an easy to clean shower head made of plastic and silicone at an ideal temperature of well over 90?C. The filter ? titanium-plated stainless steel and finely meshed - keeps the coffee pure in taste, no paper filter needed. From here the coffee drips into a plastic thermos with a double-wall stainless steel interior and stays warm - no heating element needed. The thermos comes with a spout that keeps the heat where it belongs: with an easy press of a finger it opens only for pouring. The BISTRO comes with various safety features: it only turns on with the jug in place, and the handles of the jug and the filter are made from heatresistant silicone. The compact body of the new BISTRO is made from rubber-coated plastic and, despite its 1.2l/40oz capacity, doesn't take up much space on the kitchen counter. It even looks good from all angles - in all the various colors it comes in. Dimensions: Depth 8.75 inWidth 12.25 inHeight 15.75 in

Poor product, worst customer service
First out of the box, the machine built was underwhelming. The fit of the top panel, among other things, was so poor it wouldn't really stay there (when I finally gave it to my mother, she called me to ask what was going on with the top panel, if she was supposed to do something underneath it or glue it closed. "Just leave it there, it's not a feature or anything, leave that thing alone."
But I could have lived with that as long as it was making good coffee. It was, but not for long, a month or so. Then some temperature controller failed and it wouldn't make more than teaspoons of coffee at a time. I tried to reach Bodum by email, using the form on their website, by phone, on different times on different days, I did try their US AND Canadian numbers (I'm in Canada), nothing.
Finally I went to buy a Breville BDC600XL while I had a local electronics repair shop look over the Bodum. He had to rip it open as it's a sealed design and made of brittle plastic (I even...

HOT without the Frills!
Finally! A coffee maker that brews HOT coffee with great taste! I have used a Mr. Coffee for many years, and finally decided to step up to the plate and buy a real coffee maker. I am NOT dissapointed! Yes, it is expensive, but worth every penny! Very simple to use and clean...brews HOT coffee...and best of all the coffee tastes great! It takes me about 3 minutes to add the water and grinds and push a button, and then about 6 minutes to have a pot of great coffee. I now have a routine of adding grinds and water at night, and just pushing the button in the morning. I can hardly get out of the kitchen before the coffee is brewed! Who needs timers?
