Plastic lid
Ordered this percolator based upon the description as stainless steel design and a review that stated that there are no plastic parts that come into contact with the coffee. Well, the lid is plastic and the coffee percolates up and would constantly hit the lid. I wanted a percolator that has no plastic to contaminate the coffee - this is not it. Had to return it. (Pot seems sturdy and well made otherwise)

FAILED WITHIN 10 DAYS
WE WERE GIVEN A MELETTA 6 CUP COFFEE PURCOLATOR MODEL 40191 FOR CHRISTMAS IT STARTED A SECOND BREW CYCLE ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER IT COMPLETED THE FIRST BREW CYCLE. WE DID NOT HAVE A PROOF OF PURCHASE SO WE JUST CALLED THE 800 NUMBER IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. CINDY IN CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS GREAT SHE IS SENDING A PRE PAID SHIPPING DOCUMENT AND SHOULD HAVE A NEW ONE SOON. THE COFFEE MAKER MAKES A GREAT CUP OF COFFEE AND WE THINK IT LOOKS RATHER NEAT ON THE COUNTER INSTEAD OF A DRIP STYLE. WE JUST HOPE THE NEW ONE LASTS LONGER.
A bit disappointed in Melitta
I've had none of the problems others have had in terms of shorting out or pooping out. It has been dependable and consistent. My problem is that I expect more from a percolator in this price range. It does not have a heavy, quality feel to it. While that annoyed me, it was a plus to the senior that I eventually gifted it to. It's an easy to manage size and weight for someone with hand and wrist issues.
As far as temp, it perked as hot as a percolator should...but, in my opinion, could have used a good 15 more seconds of perking time in order to coax a bit more from the grounds.
When I first was out on my own, many, many years ago, all I could afford was the simple classic Melitta. One plastic cone with a Melitta paper filter and you placed it over a mug and poured hot water in. A poor man's Chemex. I think it cost two bucks.
Melitta made it possible for a dirt poor girl to make an excellent cup of warm comfort. The brand will always have a place in my heart, even though...
